spotted grazing or romping on the verdant hillside. To be amidst such an abundance of natural beauty seems surreal, and you find yourself wanting time to stand still for just a few moments more. Breakfast is served each morning in a dining room which, like all other rooms, enables guest to begin the day by drinking in dramatic vistas. However, once the food arrives, the scenery finally has some competition. The menu varies daily, and each dish served is superb. After indulging in Youngberg’s morning feast, taking advantage of the inn’s excellent hiking or jogging trails helps assuage any guilt one may be wrestling with from over-indulging at the breakfast table.
   Each of the guest quarters at Youngberg Inn is tastefully decorated and selecting a favorite is difficult. However, if you are seeking the inn’s premier accommodations, request the Martini suite featuring French doors leading to a private deck, a sitting room with a fireplace, a king size bed, and a bath with both a Jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. Guests also have access to various common areas, including a well-stocked library and a lounging salon.
   My husband Bill and I visited Youngberg Hill in late September during the harvesting of the grapes. During harvest time, the “pickers” begin working each day at dawn. Bill and I enjoyed watching the process each morning while having early coffee. Later in the day, it was fun sauntering through the vineyards plucking and sampling the rich, juicy grapes—something guests are encouraged to do.
   Special events (from winemakers’ dinners to a series of concerts) are regularly scheduled to make visits to the inn even more pleasant. Whether you are seeking a base for touring the Oregon wine country or in quest of a quiet, romantic getaway, Youngberg Hill
