“Home of The Singing Innkeeper” I arrive in Berlin, the most heavily Amish populated settlement in the world, on a rainy night in early October. Driving slowly along a narrow country road, I stay on course by following the gas tail lights of an Amish horse-drawn buggy. Just as my beacon-of-light turns off the main road, I spot a semi-Victorian country home perched atop a hill. It is aglow with a twinkling candle gracing each window. On a dreary and starless night, The Lamplight Inn projects a warmth that could not be more enticing.Originally built as a bed and breakfast inn by an Amish couple, this alluring property was purchased by Helen and Larry Wilgus in early 2005. Unlike most homes built by the Amish, Lamplight Inn is not “simple or plain” by any means. Fine woodworking and special features abound. A wrap-around porch overlooks lush Amish farms and provides magnificent views. |
Helen, a charming
and gracious hostess, prepares a superb breakfast each morning. As guests
feast upon it, Larry (a talented musician) conducts an interactive
mini-concert. Strong Points Hospitality plus, location & setting/vistas, landscaping, private entrances available, early coffee and gourmet breakfast (during which time Larry plays the Grand piano/serenades guests with romantic songs), Satellite TV & DVD, WIFi, whirlpools tubs & fireplaces available in rooms, wrap-around |
