"Where Serenading Songbirds Seem to Stroke the Soul”
I
think this is the kind of place you seek,” a reader from California writes to
me. After reading her glowing description of Songbird Prairie, I visit the
inn’s Web site. It does not take long before I know I will soon be making a
trip to Indiana where colorful, mesmerizing songbirds await me. |
Each morning, as songbirds gather
for their morning feeding at multiple
feeders attached to a glassed-in
sunroom, guests feast upon a beautifully presented gourmet breakfast. The
3-course meal almost suffices until bedtime when guests find a double
chocolate truffle, topped with a candied nest and eggs, placed in their
room (bird-themed, of course!) at turn-down. The unexpected treats are
never-ending. Strong Points Hospitality plus, Location/setting, Décor, Attention-to-detail, Gourmet breakfast, Boxed lunches available, In-room satellite TVs & data ports, Homemade cookies, Complimentary soft drinks, Plush robes, Luxurious linens & towels, Fireplaces in guestrooms, Double whirlpools, Radiant-heated bathroom floors in some bathrooms, Wheelchair accessible rooms, Spa services available, Special packages.

“Located in Wisconsin’s L ighthouses and maritime history have always intrigued me, and so my discovery of Door County Lighthouse Inn was a an exciting one.Centrally located in Wisconsin’s picturesque Door County, where 10 lighthouses dot the 250 miles of shoreline, Door County Lighthouse Inn was recently constructed to capture the region’s rich nautical flavor. The results are captivating. Each guestroom is named after a lighthouse in Door County and enhanced with a private deck—most rooms have a partial water view. The rooms are all appealing, and selecting a favorite is difficult. Four of the guestrooms are upstairs (my preference), and one is downstairs.

Claire and
Frank Murphy, the owners and resident innkeepers responsible for creating this
delightful inn, know how to welcome their guests with the same welcoming glow
that a lighthouse provides wayfaring ships at sea. Claire, a long-time
lighthouse enthusiast, has also co-authored an excellent guidebook featuring the
lighthouses of Door County. Strong Points Hospitality plus, Location, Early coffee, Full gourmet breakfast, Complimentary refreshments, Décor, TVs/VCRs in rooms, Wheelchair accessible, Whirlpool tubs, fireplaces available, Luxurious linens, Special packages available.
