An outstanding breakfast is served each morning in one of the two dining areas; early coffee or tea is available for guests desiring a picker-upper shortly after rising. Each morning I sit at a table from which I enjoy manicured grounds while bird-watching and hoping to spot a deer emerge for a morning romp. What a wonderful—and delicious—way to begin a day!
     In the main house, the attractively adorned Chelsea and Covent Garden rooms offer king-sized beds, an en suite bath, and lovely views of the countryside. The more spacious Churchill and Kensington suites, brimming with attention-to-detail, will sleep up to four individuals (each has a queen-size and a king-size bed). The suites also boast an all-season electric fireplace, and the Churchill Suite’s bathroom features  double pedestal sinks along with a large  whirlpool tub/shower.
     Each cottage has a distinct person- ality, but the newly opened Buckingham Cottage is truly Runnymede’s “crown jewel” and perfect for couples traveling together. Each cottage has a front porch with rocking chairs; inside there is a mini bar (with a refrigerator and microwave) and a wood-burning or electric fireplace. Guests staying in the cottages also receive a full breakfast each morning in the dining area of the main house.
     “Bedding down,” in the Lone Star state, has made great strides since frontier days when cowboys camped outside or slept upon musty cots in make-do bunkhouses. The casual elegance of Runnymede Country Inn B&B, enhanced by its charm and extensive amenities, encourages nods of approval from discriminating travelers who are anxious to return  for a repeat visit.
      Even though Fredericksburg has many B&Bs from which to choose, selecting Runnymede as the inn to stay in during a trip to The Hill Country is a choice one will not regret
