Bedlam

B&B

Fountain Hills, AZ

Coyote Room

“In a Scenic Desert Community”

Travelling through upscale residential areas on the outskirts of Scottsdale, I wonder how any place located amidst such  serenity could possibly be “bedlamic.”  As I pass Fountain Park, featuring a picturesque fountain shooting water 560 feet upward into the desert sky, I am ready to see more of the area—bedlamic or not!

When Pam and Tom Carlson opened their bed and breakfast inn during the 1980s, their four daughters were still living at home. The Carlsons, proprietors and resident innkeepers, named their inn “Bedlam B&B” in an effort to forewarn future guests about possible happenings at an inn resided in by four active young girls. I don’t know what transpired at the Carlson’s B&B during those years, but it is now marked by a sense of total tranquility enhanced by charm and creative whimsy.
Perched upon a hillside acre, Bedlam B&B is a Southwestern style territorial home overlooking spectacular mountain ranges and the Sonoran desert. The patio area is an ideal area for relaxing and enjoying surrounding vistas.

A family-style breakfast is served each morning in the dining room. It is always plentiful and delicious.

Before leaving, I view a magnificent sunset while relaxing on an upper level porch swing. I know I have experienced the magic of desert living at its best, and I cherish the moment.

The Road Runner Room

“Located in a Quaint

Southwestern Village”

It is early November when I arrive in New Mexico, and I am not expecting to see the desert landscape dotted with golden and crimson colored trees. It seems the area’s vibrant fall foliage mirrors the richness of the region’s culture and history so often expressed in dramatic hues and geometric designs.

The classic adobe-style home, housing Chocolate Turtle B&B, was constructed during the 1970s. After being purchased and totally renovated by the current owners / innkeepers, Nancy and Dallas Renner, it was re-opened as a B&B in August 2004. Not only are the Renners two of the nicest folks one could ever hope to meet, but their service-oriented nature and desire to please is evident in all they do.

Each morning a superb breakfast is served on the portal (porch) or in the breakfast room, depending upon the weather. The morning repast is consistently tasty, bounteous, and visually appealing. Freshly baked goodies are available for guests in the afternoons, and a delicious chocolate/caramel/pecan turtle is placed in guest rooms to provide a bedtime treat.

I adore everything about Chocolate Turtle B&B as well as its location in New Mexico’s Rio Grande valley. However, the allure of the mesmerizing views from the inn’s portal is the magnet which will propel my return to this serene oasis in the desert.
